Sandy has always been drawn to making big things by hand. Her mom taught her to sew when she was very young, and she gradually grew this skill into her livelihood. Her background in Fine Art and her devotion to textiles led her naturally to start Callie Quilts, which she runs with the help of her mom, in a beautiful full-circle moment. Blending traditional techniques with bold, distinctive designs, Sandy hopes to make quilts a staple in South African homes, and in doing so, bring a new fervour and appreciation to quilts and quilt-making — spotlighting them as heirloom pieces built on dedication and love. Her favourite quilts are the big ones that can wrap around you, totally enveloping your body in softness. This is the feeling she wants to share.
